Allowing credit card debt to get out of control will result in other financial problems for the person in the future. The next thing a person needs to do is stop using their cards, okay they may be handy to have but the interest payments you make on the items you buy can often exceed the price you actually pay for them. Instead try whenever possible to buy what you need with cash only and only do so when the money is available. Reduced interest payments on your credit card means less debt to worry about.
The next thing to think about is increasing the amount you pay each month to the credit card company in order to clear the outstanding balance on yours. Rather than just going for the minimum payment possible increase this slightly even if only by a few dollars. The more you can pay off on the card each month the less amount of interest you are going to be charged.
If you are finding it difficult even to meet your credit card minimum payments immediately seek assistance by undergoing some credit counseling. There are people who can offer advice and help you with devising a plan that your credit card company will find agreeable that means you aren't going without or you will not need to file for bankruptcy.
The credit counselor will devise a plan that make sure you are able to make some kind of payment and if you then have funds available to pay more of the credit card debt off when you can. Avoiding making payments could result in difficulties later on for you as your credit rating will be affected and getting a loan or another credit card becomes much more difficult.

But if this is not possible then consider transferring the balance outstanding on your current credit card to another one where the rates of interest are lower.
The final way to help get rid of or reduce your credit card debt is through a loan. Taking out a loan whether secured or unsecured ensures that the complete outstanding debit on the card is paid off. Because generally the time period in which the loan needs to be paid back is considerably longer the amount you are paying each month will be less. Also the great thing about loans over credit cards is the interest rates charged are somewhat lower as well.
